Rohin Vrajesh

I am a 5th-year PhD candidate in the Department of Management and Technology at Bocconi University. 

My research lies at the intersection of strategy and innovation. I study how firm strategy responds to changes in the institutional environment. I focus on three interrelated settings where the institutional environment has changed: the public disclosure of scientific data, the determinants of patent priority and the legal protection of trade secrets. Across these settings, I examine three outcomes central to firm strategy: where firms direct their R&D investment, the quality of the products they bring to market, and the knowledge they trade with other firms. My research combines novel datasets in the pharmaceutical and medical device contexts and contributes to research in strategy, innovation and entrepreneurship. 

My research has been recognized by the Strategy Research Foundation's Will Mitchell Dissertation Research Grant Program (2026-2028). My job market paper has been nominated for the SMS Best Conference PhD Paper Prize 2026.

Before starting my PhD at Bocconi, I was a pre-doctoral researcher at the Indian School of Business. I hold an MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics and a BSc in Economics, Mathematics and Statistics from Christ University, Bangalore.
